Quotation preparation

What to prepare for a CNC machining quotation

Clarify drawing revisions, material, quantity and delivery requirements so the scope is easy to review.

Identify the drawing revision

Include the part number and drawing revision, and identify which file is the quotation reference. If supplying both a 2D drawing and a 3D model, check that they represent the same revision.

Mark requirements that are still under review. When sending an updated file, describe the changes so the machining scope can be reassessed.

Include the delivery requirements

  • Material and whether it is customer-supplied or sourced by us.
  • Prototype quantity and any expected production batch, listed separately.
  • Required receipt date and whether partial deliveries are acceptable.
  • Surface finishing, heat treatment, assembly and packaging requirements.
  • Required inspection items, reports and material documentation.

Compare the scope as well as the price

Check whether each quotation includes material, machining, finishing, inspection, packaging and transport. Include any nominated suppliers or processing specifications in the inquiry.
